Description ::

In January of 2008, Berenson Browne was selected by the Mattapan Community Health Center (MCHC) to act as their exclusive consultant in an effort to expand their current operations and revitalize a section of Boston that hasn’t seen a large-scale redevelopment of any type in over 80 years. Mark Browne was able to successfully facilitate the acquisition of 5 parcels of land in Boston’s Mattapan Square that were required to construct the MCHC’s proposed 59,000 square foot facility.

Primary funding for the project came from the Federal government and donations from both corporate sponsors and non-profit organizations. In addition to this, MCHC needed additional value to secure the remaining financing. To this end, Mark was able to secure leaseholds with two retail service providers to occupy 18,000 SF of space on the building’s ground level: CVS/pharmacy and Citizens Bank.

Recognized by State and City officials as a breakthrough and innovative project, the MCHC will become the example of an intelligent new development in a thriving community that has been otherwise neglected.  It has generated more than 200 temporary jobs in its construction phase and when completed in the summer of 2012 will employ over 160 individuals.
